Book Look - What's Science All About?

What's Science All About? is a combined volume, meaning there are three books packed in here for the price of less than two!

Here's a look at the inside:

This book contains What's Biology All About?, What's Chemistry All About?, and What's Physics All About?.

It's also Internet-Linked, which is GREAT! Usborne regularly checks the links to make sure they're safe and working, so your kids aren't tied up on search engines (finding who knows what!). I love these books!

Below is the contents for the Biology part:

This book can be used for all 3 cycles of Classical Conversations!

Chemistry part:

Physics part:

More of the Chemistry part (sorry the pics are out of order):

One of the special features of this book is the Do-It-Yourself activities, pictured above!

Rock cycle! Hello, Cycle 1!

More Physics:

Isn't this a fantastic book!

Now, I'm going to shoot straight with you.

There are a few things in this 288-page book that I don't agree with, such as evolution presented as fact and global warming. Here are those pages:

Mya means million of years ago...

Also, the paragraph in the Biology section about sexual reproduction is surprisingly matter-of-fact with what goes where to get the sperm to the egg (shudder!). So... I have those two pages taped together (and I may even remove them stealthily), although the images are some of the most kid-friendly ones I've seen in any Science book. (weird combination, huh?)

Now, these parts about evolution aren't a deal-breaker for me (neither are the reproduction pages; every Science reference book has 'em). I use them as teachable moments with my big girl to point her back to what the Bible says is Truth. I want to be the one to walk her through these false beliefs; we don't shy away from them. In fact, in CC's Cycle 3, we'll be memorizing the definition of many of these theories, including evolution, catastrophism, and others.

So, that's my two cents on the matter, but I understand that others won't be in agreement. No worries; to each his own. And I just want you to have all the information possible on a book before purchasing it.

Personally, I love What's Science All About?, and Mary and I will use it as a reference book once we start first grade in July.

Click here to pick up your copy for $15.99. It's geared to ages 8 and up and has the super-cool flexi-binding (my favorite!).
