Book Look - Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge

Do you have an aging parent in an assisted-living facility?

Do you struggle with how to explain to your kids that Nana can't remember anymore?

If so, I feel for you, friend. It's not easy, I know. My grandfather recently passed away, and my grandmother just isn't herself. She can't remember what day it is, and well, it's just so sad.

(Sigh.)

Well, let me tell you about this book that touches on these issues. Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge, is such a sweet treasure to help little ones wrap their minds around such a big and scary idea of losing your memory. I love it, and yes, I cried at the end (because I cry at the end of everything).

Take a look:

In a nutshell, a young boy regularly visits a nearby nursing home and learns that one of his favorite ladies is losing her memory. Wilfrid, the boy, asks the other residents what a memory is. Some say it's something warm, something funny, something that makes you cry, etc. Wilfrid takes them literally and goes out and finds one of each and gives them to his special friend. She looks though the strange basket of goodies from this strange boy, and then she remembers who Wilfrid is and how they met. He found her memory.

Such a sweet, sweet story that touches my heart. So unique and heart-warming!

Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge is recognized as a Reading Rainbow Review Book and an ALA Notable Children's Book (and for good reason!)
